He was 23 and the son of the Rev. Samuel Campbell Fry (Minister for Girvan Parish, Church of Scotland) and Janet Allan Fry, of The Manse, Girvan.

He is remembered on the Girvan Memorial and on the war memorial at the entrance to Girvan North End Parish Church.
