25 May 1917 Citation reads:
During the 7 May, near Bullecourt, Sergeant artley was continually out mending telephone wires under very heavy shell fire. Early in the day the other linesman Gnr. Vickress was wounded.Sgt Bartley was responsible for mendong 14 breaks in the wire, and by his fine example, not only encouraged the other linesman in their dangerous work but also maintain communications at times under great difficulty throughout the day.
Ever since the formation of this battery this N.C.O has carried out his duties in a most gallant and conscientious manner
