'My brothers are sleeping their last long sleep,
Their graves we may never see;
But some gentle hand in that far off land,
May scatter some flowers for me.'

PEEBLES.—In loving memory of our dearly beloved brother, Pte. James Peebles, late 49th Batt., who was killed in action on 7th June, 1917, at the battle of Messines.

Since our brave brother fell;
Yet in our hearts we mourn the loss
Of him we loved so well.'

Though he knew honour's path oft leads to

What more, or what better could any man give,
Than to die for his country that others might
live--my brother.'

PEEBLES.—In loving memory of my dear brother, Pte. James Peebles, killed in action, in France, 7th June, 1917.

He who will ne'er return—my brother.'

PEEBLES. —In sad and loving memory of my dear husband, Private Jas. Peebles, killed in action, at Messines, 7th June, 1917.

of you.'

PEEBLES.—In loving memory of my dear son, Pte. James Peebles, killed in action, 7th June, 1917, at the battle of Messines.

'We can picture your, dear Jimmie,
As if it were this week;
When you left home for the battlefield,
And kissed each other's neck.
We can picture you dear, Jimmie,
Remember, oh, too well;
That on the seventh day of June,
You, a hero, fell.'
