John Cheeseman Davy

John Cheeseman Davy was born 25.07.1884 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, to parents John Davy and Mary Peacock.
In 1906 he married Jessie Dobson. He departed Bremen, Germany, in 1910, on the ship 'Frieten' with his wife and two daughters headed for Fremantle, Western Australia. His occupation was noted as an engineer.
On 15.4.1916, John enlisted at Geraldton, Western Australia, Service No 5840, as a Private of the 28th Battalion. He embarked from Fremantle on the 'Suffolk' on 10.10.1916 and disembarked in Plymouth on 2.12.1916. John proceeded from Folkestone to France on 'SS Princess Clementine' on 21.12.1916. He marched to Etaples 22.12.1916 and joined unit 17.1.1917.
John Cheeseman Davy was wounded and died on 21.09.1917 at 3rd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, Ypres (Ieper), Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium from a penetrating gun shot wound in his back. He is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Plot 23, Row B, Grave 19A. He is remembered on the Australian War Memorial, Roll of Honour at Panel number 112. John received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
