James Gall

James was a member of the 1st Australian Light Horse Regiment (Servc # 779) 3rd Re-inforcement.

He enlisted 15.01.1915 with his brother John Joseph ( Servc # 780 ) and embarked for Europe on the HMAT 6 ,

James died on board at sea from enteric fever ( inluenza ) and was buried 31.7.1915 at the Pieta Cemetery in Malta by H. P. Dodd in Row 3 Grave No. 6, Plot B. He had served as a Temporary with the Miner's Coy on Gallipoli but was relieved on 18th July to be transferred to Europe aboard the H.S. ( Hospital Ship )

Biography

"News was received last week of the death of Private James Gall, of Sarsfield. On arriving in Egypt the deceased, who was 24 years of age, contracted a severe attack of measles, and was for a time a patient ill the Heliopolis hospital. Becoming convalescent, he proceeded to the front, where he contracted enteric fever. He was being invalided home on the hospital ship, but died on the journey. Information has been received that deceased's brother, Private Jack Gall, who is at the Dardanelles, is also ill." - from the Bairnsdale Every Week 26 Aug 1915 (nla.gov.au)
