Son of Thomas Urquhart and Agnes Urquhart nee Elliott of Norwood Road, Camberwell, Victoria. Brother of Thomas Oliver Urquhart who retired to Australia on 22 April 1919 having served with the 15th Field Company Engingeers
12 August 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 5th Field Company Engineers and with the rank of Private
18 March 1916 - taken on strength with the 15th Field Company Engineers at Tel-el-Kebir with the rank of Sapper
