Frank Morgan Hackett
Frank Morgan Hackett was born in London, England in 1875. He arrived in South Australia on the Howenstaufen on the 17th May 1891 with his widowed mother Margaret and his sister Caroline Elizabeth. Hackett purchased 56 acres of land at Forest Range in 1901 and planted an orchard on the property. He is remembered as a successful and progressive fruitgrower {Bishop p 110}. In their early years in the area the Hacketts lived in an old house deep in a gully on the property, but Frank later built a substantial home on higher ground. Hackett enlisted on the 12th March 1917, aged 41 and cited his mother Mrs Margaret Hackett of Forest Range as next of kin. He served in Moascar, Egypt from the 10th December 1917 until the termination of the war and was discharged on the 1st October 1919. Hackett later married May Reilly.
