From Braidwood Dispatch, 3 January 1919:

Private Les. Wheeler, formerly grader at the Braidwood Refrigerating Company, returned at the latter end of last week. He was wounded in the left arm in France. This is still practically useless. The bone between the
elbow and the shoulder was shot clean away, rendering the hand unworkable. It is proposed to connect the broken part with a silver plate, and when this operation has been performed it is believed that the arm will be almost as good as ever. Physically Private Wheeler is as sound as the proverbial bell. He met with a warm reception at the hands of his many friends here.
