Son of Henry Charles Orchard and Margaret Jane Orchard nee Cook of JOhnson Street, Maffra, Victoria.
Brother of George William Orchard who returned to Australia on 24 October 1917 having served with the 37th Battalion; Walter Ernest Orchard who returned to Australia on 4 January 1920 having served with the 46th Battalion.
