Proud Great Nephew
My story begins with a brief overview of my relationship to Pvt. Patrick John Canty.
My Father John Francis Canty was born in Gordon in 1904 Died 1968 ( I was 16yo) . My Father was a nephew of Pvt. Patrick John Canty. I have visited my Great Uncles grave in Werribee and viewed his name on the Werribee RSL honour roll board and his ‘ page’ in the Shrine of Remembrance, Melbourne. My Grandfather David Canty born Gordon , was a brother of Pvt. Patrick John Canty. As my Mother and Father both passed away in South Melbourne in 1968, I did not get the opportunity to explore this relationship in person. I have obviously’ tracked’ this important information in recent years. I can only assume that my Father and Mother named me John Patrick Canty in my birth year, 1952, in honour of my brave Great Uncle.
