Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Charles Prujean and Mary Ann STEVENS, Bridge Street, Sebastopol, Victoria

Edmund Hall Stevens (SN 51453) was born in Sebastopol and attended the Sebastopol State School. He was a 19-year-old, single, Grocer when he enlisted in Ballarat on 27th March 1918. Edmund was allocated to the 2nd General Service Reinforcements at Broadmeadows Camp on 20 Apr 1918. He was posted to the 22nd Infantry Battalion and embarked from Sydney on 1st May. On 3rd October 1918 he was killed in action in Estrees village, and buried in Prospect Hill Cemetery, France.

Advice was received yesterday by Mr C. Stevens, Bridge street, Sebastopol, from the Defence Department, through the Rev. A. Francis that his son, Pte E. H. Stevens had been hilled in action in France on 3rd October. The last letters received by his parents from Pte Stevens stated that he was concluding his training at Fovar Camp, Wiltshire, England. He was in the 22nd Battalion. The first intimation that he had been in the fighting line was the news that he  had been killed in action. The deceased soldier was born at Sebastopol, and received his education at the local State school. When he enlisted he was in the employ of Mr McAllester, grocer, of Victoria street, Ballarat. He was a member of the Prince Alfred Lodge, M.U.I.O.O.F.
