Private William Henry Osler (Service Nos:6417/V240700) served in the AIF in WWI, enlisting on 12 September 1916 with 39th Infantry Battalion, and was attached to 21st Infantry Battalion on 23 November 1916 when he embarked with his Unit fom Melbourne for Portsmouth on board HMAT A20 Hororata. Private Osler was WiA in France on 4 October 1917 - multiple GSWs - and was evacuated to England. On 10 March 1918 Private Osler embarked from England for Melbourne on board the Orontes, and was attached to 21st Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 21 June 1918. In WWII, Private Osler served in the ACMF with 14 Battalion VDC from 23 March 1942 to 21 September 1945. Younger brother George (Private; Service No:7063) also served in WWI.

William was born in Stawell, Victoria in 1889, fifth of seven children of Esket Osler (b1851 in Cambridgeshire, England) and Elizabeth Ann Sexton (b1854 in Avoca, Victoria). Esket immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1852, arriving in Port Phillip Bay on board the Persian. Esket was a Bootmaker in Wooroonook and then in Jeffcott in 1878 when he and Elizabeth married in Avoca. Esket and Elizabeth lived in Jeffcott, Dooboobetic and Mt Dryden before moving to Stawell in 1883 and then settling at Fyan's Creek, where they raised their family and Esket was a Bootmaker, and by 1914 a Farmer.

William worked as a Labourer at Fyan's Creek, and in 1915 in Stawell married Ethel May Williams (b1893 in Stawell, Victoria). Following his Discharge from the Army in 1918, William and Ethel settled at Fyan's Creek, where William was a Sheep Farmer, was a member of the Halls Gap Rifle Club, and served with the ACMF in WWII. Ethel died in 1944 and William in 1957.
