Biography contributed by Deb Miller

"Late Mr. B. Edwards.

Mr. Ben Edwards, who died at the Perth Public Hospital on the 8th inst., was an old and much respected resident of Gledhow. He was born in the Western district of Victoria, and came to Albany about a score of years ago, where he took up land and engaged principally in the growing of vegetables. Ben was popular among his neighbours and with the general community, noted for his bon homie. He served with the first AIF in the 39th Battalion, and saw much active service. He was a member of the local branch of the RSL, which body forwarded a wreath for his funeral, which took place at the Karrakatta cemetery on the 10th inst. The State Executive of the League was represented by Major F. Coombes and the Albany Branch by Mr. H. H. Haddrill, who dropped a poppy on the coffin on behalf of members. The service was conducted by the Rev. F. W. Gunning, of Mt. Hawthorn. Other mourners were old friends from Perth and Albany, among whom were Messrs. W. A. Schurer, H. C. Prior, Jack Schurer (Perth Fire Brigade) and H. Nettle. The funeral arrangements were carried out by A. J. Purslowe and Co., of Perth. Many beautiful floral tributes were forwarded by friends of a popular figure in both rural and town life." - from the Albany Advertiser 19 Oct 1944 (nla.gov.au)
