Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of George Edward and Mary DOUGLAS, 9 Bridge Street, Erskinville, NSW

Gordon served in Egypt and France and was promoted to Sergeant on the field. He made the supreme sacrivice at Lagnicourt on 14 April, 1917.

Sergeant Douglas was in charge of a post in front of the line and was killed by a shell explosion.  He was buried where he fell on the battlefield.  He was highly esteemed by the officers and men of his battalion.

Sergeant Gordon Douglas, eldest son of Mr. G. Douglas, of Erskineville, was killed in action in France on April 15. Lance-Sergeant Douglas joined his younger brother, Corporal Alan Douglas, in Egypt, after the evacuation of Gallipoli. They went to France together, and during the battle of Pozieres Alan was killed in action on July 26, 1916. A younger brother,  Kenneth, is at present on active service in France.

The railway workers presented Mr. and Mrs. Douglas with an oil painting of their three sons, as a mark of esteem.  Two memorial windows were placed in Holy Trinity Church, Erskinville, which were unveiled by the Rev. Dean Talbot, Dean of Sydney, and were erected in loving memory by their parents.
