Son of James Duncan Campbell LONGDEN and Agostina Anna Albertini LONGDEN nee ARNATI, Gheringhap Street, Geelong, Vic.

Frank Longden was educated at Geelong College and University of Melbourne where he studied medicine and later at Edinburgh University to complete his studies.

Husband of Josephine Mary LONGDEN nee ROBERTSON

Frank enlisted on 8 December 1915 and recorded his address as Buninyong Victoria, aged 53 years and was also a practicing GP and Surgeon at Ballarat Hospital   He was appointed to the rank of Captain and posted as a medical officer to the AIF Sea Transport Services initially on the ship Demosthenes, which departed Melbourne on 29 December 1915.  In Egypt, Frank served at No 1 AGH Heliopolis prior to returning to Australia on HMAT Nestor on 9 February 1916.

His military appointment was terminated on 14 March 1916, and he then returned to Buninyong where he continued practicing until 1935 from his home ‘Majella’ in Learmonth Street.  

Dr Frank Longden’s son, Norman Anderson Longden also enlisted for WW1 at the age of 19 whilst undertaking his medical studies and later enlisted for service in WW2 as a doctor.

Dr. Frank Reginald Longden, the oldest medical practitioner in the district, died on Tuesday night at his home at Buninyong where he practised for more than sixty years. He was 80 years of age. For many years he was health officer to Buninyong shire. He was a keen lover or sport, particularly horse racing, and was a noted billiard player. One of his sons is a  doctor at Ballarat. The funeral at the Buninyong Cemetery yesterday was attended by many mourners including doctors and sportsmen.
