Alan David Monteith was a soldier in the 32nd Battalion. He was born in approximately September 1895 to his mother, Elizabeth Monteith. His father's name is unknown. He was raised in Mildura and his occupation was a labourer.

When he enlisted at Broken Hill on May 4th 1916, he was 20 years old and single, and his next of kin was his mother. He embarked on the HMAT Ballarat A70 from Adelaide on the e 12th of August 1916, landing in Devonport on the 30th of September. He then underwent soldier training in Britain with the 2nd Depot Battalion, and afterrwards transferred to the 32nd Battalion.

He landed in Etaples, France on December 6th 1917 and soon joined his unit. Alan was posted there for just over six weeks before being admitted to hospital with dental problems. A few days later he returned to duty, and served with the 32nd Battalion through most of 1917 and 1918. He continued to serve for the rest of the war before returning to Australia on May 13th 1919.

In conclusion, Alan David Monteith was one of the lucky soldiers to fight in WW1 and return home with their lives. We still remember him as one of the brave soldiers fighting for his nation.
