"He became godfather to his nephew and three days later embarked on the troopship Ascanius for England. He never returned, dying of wounds received in the battle of Amiens on May 12, 1918. He is buried in a military cemetery at Pernois, about 5km from a place called Prise Sur Canaple, situated between Abbeville and Amiens, but not in a direct line."
