OBITUARY
Mr. W. T. Ross

The death occurred at the Canberra Community Hospital on Saturday morning of Mr. William Topham Ross, secretary of the Public Service Board. The deceased entered hospital some four weeks ago and underwent an operation. He was making good progress, but suddenly collapsed. Mr. Ross, who had been the secretary of the Public Service Board for the last seven years, entered the Public Service as a messenger in 1902. He came to Canberra in 1928 and until he became secretary, occupied the position of chief clerk. He served in the last war and held the rank of lieutenant. After two years in Egypt he was invalided home to Australia owing to an accident with a horse. His son, William Louis Ross, is a lieutenant in the second A.I.F., and is at present serving in Libya with the 2/12 Light Artillery Regiment. Before entering the army he had just completed the law course at Melbourne University.
The late Mr. Ross, whose father was an engineers officer in the Royal Navy, was a member of the Canberra R.S.A., and will be accorded a returned soldier's funeral at the Canberra General Cemetery. The cortege will leave St. John's Church of England following a service at 2.15 p.m.
