He served at Gallipoli in The Great War as a Private Service Number 1097, with the 27th Battalion, AIF; discharged as Medically Unfit on 4th July 1916 and returned to Australia. He served in WWII as a Lance Corporal, Service Number V81147, in 12 Garrison Battalion, Australian Infantry.
