Son of Archdeacon George Nickells, Bishop, Kyneton, Victoria
S. T. BISHOP, being in Ceylon at outbreak of war, joined up with the Ceylon Engineers in April 1915 and took part in the suppression of
the riots in Ceylon. He left Ceylon in November 1915, and having returned to Australia enlisted in A.I.F. on 29th February, embarking as Lance-Corporal in Engineer reinforcements on 7th October 1916.
He was transferred to 6th Field Co. Engineers as Sapper, and having taken part in operations in France returned to Australia on 27th December 1918 and was discharged on 27th February 1919.
