George was born and raised in Fiji and was helping his father to manage a coconut plantation there when he enlisted from Sydney NSW. He enlisted at the same time as his brother, 4060 Pte. Arthur Henry Beddows 17th Battalion, who was killed in action at Bullecourt 3 May 1917. George was killed when a shell struck the dugout he was entering near Villers-Bretonneux.
