Albert was the second of six children of William Thomas Matcott (b1855 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Mary Jane Ball Jilbert (b1858 in Cornwall, England). William - a Miner- and Mary married in 1880 in California Gully, Bendigo, Victoria where they raised their family.
Albert was a Pastry Cook in Melbourne, Victoria when he married Annie Elizabeth Appleby (b1880 in Eaglehawk, Bendigo, Victoria). In 1915 Albert enlisted briefly in the AIF, Discharging at his own request. By 1917 when he re-enlisted, Albert was a Widower with four children. He served with 3rd Pioneer Battalion (Private; Service No:3564) and was Discharged in January 1919.
Returning to Melbourne, Albert worked as a Labourer and in 1921 married Mary Emily Hughes (b1899 in Gisborne, Victoria). Albert and Mary settled in Melbourne where Albert worked as a Labourer. He died in 1943 and Mary in 1985.
