115 Pte Charles Stephen Lewis, also a contractor, of Geraldton WA, was born at Brentwood, Yorke Peninsula SA, enlisted in February 1915, and embarked with 28th Battalion as an original of A Company. He was wounded in action on Gallipoli with shrapnel to the right leg during October 1915, and evacuated to Malta. He next saw action at Pozieres, where was again severely wounded, with 7th MG Company on 6 August 1916, suffering severe gunshot  wounds to both legs, both were fractured, then amputated in hospital and he died of wounds in 13th Stationary Hospital, Boulogne France, aged 31yrs 4 months.

Charles was the son of James and Annie Lewis, of Hilton, South Australia. Roll of Honour circular states "He was a good rifle shot, with his 2 brothers he landed at Gallipoli and was wounded; he was wounded again in France from which he died. He was a totle (sic) abstainer and didn't smoke. Also had three brothers, one killed in action, one died of wounds, one gassed and wounded."

Charles' brothers, 120 Tpr John Percival Lewis 10th LHR was killed at the Nek on Gallipoli and Archie Gordon Lewis was killed at Mouquet Farm.

A fourth brother 6289 Pte James Walter Lewis was returned to Australia by the authorities on account of his 3 brothers having lost their lives.
