Son of Ernest Thomas Greenough and Barbara Greenough of Blackburn, England.

Next of kin given as his sister Marion Greenough of Royal Street, West Perth, WA and later as J. Edwards of Bryson Street, Canterbury, Victoria. Brother of Jack Greenough who served with the 51st Battalion and discharged in London, England.

Prior to coming to Australia he had briefly served with the East Lancashire, Regiment.

Returned to Australia on 26 August 1915 aboard HT Port Lincoln

Durinf 1918c Richard married Ruby Josephine Ryan in Victoria.
