Andrew Alfred Porter was a clerk in the 1st Infantry Battalion, 15th Reinforcement in World War 1 (WW1). He proudly served his country for several years (1914 - 1918). Alexander Porter was born on the 19th of April 1896 in Manilla, New South Wales (NSW). He lived on Barber Street, Gunnedah in NSW and his father, Frank Andrew Porter, lived on Conadilly Street. Porter went to war as a single, 19-year-old man (19 years and four months).

Andrew was about 5’9" in height, with a chest measurement of 30-33 inches (76.20 – 83.82 centimetres). He weighed 114 lbs (51.70 kilograms). Andrew had fair complexion with brown hair and grey eyes. His religious pathway followed Church of England. He worked as a joiner before he left for war. Andrew Alfred Porter enlisted on the 13th of August 1915 in Narrabri and was given the occupation of a clerk. His service number was 4836.

Porter's Australian War Memorial Embarkation Roll number is 28/18/4. His unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board the HMAT A15 Star of England on the 8th of March 1916. Andrew Porter’s rank was Lance Sergeant from the Nominal Roll, and his unit was the 43rd Battalion.

Porter survived the war and safely arrived home on the 2nd of June 1919. The last unit that Porter was recorded in was the 1st Infantry Battalion. At the age of 81, on the 3rd of May 1977, in Sydney, New South Wales, Andrew Alfred Porter passed away.
