A hard life
My grandfather signed up was served overseas . I never had the privilege of meeting him as he died 2 years before I was born . He only married once in 1918 and all wedding photos show him seated as standing was quite painful I am told. He suffered what was described as severe injuries to both legs when he was shot and returned to Australia via Egypt and many other countries . His lost his wife in 1937 leaving him with 6 young children . Family rallied around to help him raise his family during the depression in Peterborough. He passed in 1961. Hopefully more information is yet to be added .
