Help us honour Ralph Poole's service by contributing information, stories, and images so that they can be preserved for future generations.

Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

He enlisted at The Rock, New South Wales, Australia.

He was 22 and the son of John and Kate Poole, of Healaugh, Tadcaster, Yorks, England.

He is remembered as having served in the 2nd Battalion LHM Gunner Squadron on the war memorial inside the church of St John the Baptist in Healaugh, Tadcaster, Yorkshire, England.

Biography contributed by Geoffrey Gillon

There are two war memorials in Healaugh on which Ralph is remembered; one is a free-standing, roadside structure in the village’s Main Street. This is a  tall plain Portland stone octagonal Latin Cross on a square plinth and four stepped base. The dedication and names are on a separate piece of stone which may well be a later addition as IWM are quoting the inscription as being difficult to read and being badly eroded by lichen. This was not the case in August 2017. The whole monument is enclosed within a low stone wall with a pebbled surface inside.
The other one is inside the church of St John the Baptist in Healaugh, Tadcaster, Yorks, England.

Healaugh is a village and civil parish in the Selby district of North Yorkshire, England
