Arthur Henry Whitehead was the son of F.A. Whitehead who was a well-known photographer in the Ipswich area and operator of Whitehead Studios. Arthur Whitehead was also a photographer. He served during the First World War in the 25th Battalion after enlisting in May 1915. He was captured by the German forces in July 1916 in Pozieres, France after he was wounded in the field. Arthur Whitehead was kept as a Prisoner of War at the Gottingen Camp in Germany until August 1918 when the war concluded.
He married Dorothy Muriel Saxty at Bath, Somerset in June 1919. The couple returned to Australia via the United States, disembarking at Brisbane on 13 August 1919. They were to have three children. Dorothy served as an Aircraftwoman (93995) with the RAAF during 1942.
Arthur Henry Whitehead died at Ipswich in 1976 - his wife Dorothy in 1985 at Brisbane.
