Arthur Stanley Roe was educated at Brisbane Grammar School. He undertook a undergraduate arts degree and was awarded Queensland's first Rhodes Scholarship. He attended Baillol College at Oxford and completed his medical degree, doing his internship at Guys Hospital. He set up general practice in Brisbane but then came the war. He enlisted in the AIF and worked as a medical officer on a troop ship.
Following the war he set up a specialist urology practice in Brisbane. He married Emily Dawson Haymen on 22 January 1917 and they had four children - Charles, Judith and twins John and Peter. Arthur Stanley Roe died in 1966.
