Monaghan Raymond HAYES was born on 11th November 1894 in Bombala Street, Cooma NSW
His parents were William HAYES and Sarah Anne MORRIS
He served for 12 months with the Cadets before he enlisted with the Australian Army on 23rd August, 1914 - He was a Trooper in the 1st Light Horse Regiment, B Squadron - Unit embarked from Sydney on the HMAT Star of Victoria on 20th October 1914
Monaghan was Killed in Action on 31st July 1915 at the Gallipoli Peninsular, Turkey - he is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery and is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial and has a Memorial named after him in Cooma & a Memorial Plaque
