Son of Robert Viney and Harriet Viney nee Pestell of Fingal, Tasmania. Husband of the late Alice Jane Viney nee Huett.

Next of kin given as his son Adye Roy Viney who returned to Australia on 25 July 1919 having served with the 4th Machine Gun Comapnay.

Also father of William Thomas Viney who returned to Australia on 6 November 1919 having served with the 40th Battalion and Vernon Lionel Viney who returned to Australia on 10 May 1919 having served with the 1st Machine Gun Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 29 April 1916 aboard HT Seang Bee disembarking on 31 May 1916
