Ephraim Easton was a labourer born in July 7th 1888 to Mary Elizabeth and David Henry Easton. He spent his childhood and most of adult life living in Happy Valley, South Australia. Raised a Methodist, he attended Happy Valley School as a child. On the 9th of May, 1916, when he was 26, he enlisted for the Great War. He embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT A70 Ballarat on August 12, 1916 and was a Private in the 32nd Battalion and his service number was 3544. On 25th May, he was wounded in action (gas) and transferred to No 60 Field Ambulance and went through a multitude of different hospitals and ambulances before being discharged on 12 July 1917. He moved to France where he continued to fight before tragically being killed in action on September 29, 1918 in Saint Quentin in France. His body was not recovered but he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal sometime unknown in the war and is featured on many memorials. Some of these include the Adelaide National War Memorial, Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, Happy Valley War Memorial, and the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial. Ephraim Easton was a courageous soldier who gave his life up for his country and he will never be forgotten
