He was 32 and the son of Emma McCowan, of 44, Bickerton St., Aigburth, Liverpool, England, and the late Daniel McCowan. He was the husband of Lilian McCowan [nee Lewis]of 10 Lentil Street, Kirkdale.

He is remembered on the Merseyside Roll of Honour.

A report on his death appeared in the Evening Express on the 24th August 1915. His photo appeared in the report.

A LIVERPOOL AUSTRALIAN.
Pte. A. McCowan, of the Australian Expeditionary Force, was killed at the Dardanelles. He was a well-known Bootle resident, and had served in the Boer war, for which he had a medal and four clasps. He leaves a wife and four children. He went out to Australia, and joined the forces when war broke out, and previously resided at 10, Lentil-street, Kirkdale.
