Son of William and Elizabeth HEPWORTH, Shepparton, Victoria.

Arrived in Australia at the age of 20 and had served 2 years in the 1st Life Guards, British Army.  His father fought in the Boer War with the rank of Major and was at the defence of Mafeking in 1900.

News reached Shepparton on Friday that Pte. George Jelf Hepworth, son of Major W. J. and Mrs. Hepworth, of Shepparton East, was killed in action in  France on June 9. Pte. Hepworth, who was about 24 years of age, was a member of the 1st Life Guards in England for several year before coming to  Australia. He enlisted here less than a year ago. A brother of his a member of the North Devon Hussars, is serving in the firing line in Palestine.
