Son of Arthur Charles Howes and Emma Jane Howes nee Parker of Jenkins Street, Coolgardie. WA
Brother of Arthur William Henry Howes who was gassed while serving with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion and died as a result on 4 August 1916 and is buried in the Heilly Station Cemetery. Plot 111, Row B, Grave 8
Commenced return to Australia on 17 March 1917 aboard HT Beltana disembarking on 5 May 1917
