Son of Louisa Smith nee Vogt of Heydon Street, Murrurundi, NSW.
Husband of Florence Rosaline Vogt nee Philpot of Stanstead Hall, Ipswich, Suffolk, England. Walter and Florence married on 20 February 1917 in the Registry Office, Wandsworth, London, England. W.J. Griffin officiated. Florence died in Newcastle, NSW in 1937.
Commenced return to Australia on December 1918 aboard HT Takada disembarking on 11 February 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
