Son of Arthur Upton and Alice P. Upton nee Crook of Hornby Street, Windsor, Victoria.

10 July 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 5th Battalion and with the rank of Private

17 February 1916 - transferred to the 57th Battalion

19 July 1916 - wounded in action. Shell shock

15 March 1916 - transferred to the 60th Battalion

Commenced return to Australia on 22 February 1917 aboard HS Karoola disembarking on 10 April 1917

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

2 June 1917 - discharged at the 3rd Military District as medically unfit due to shell shock
