Travelled with 54th battalion from Tel-el-Kebir, Egypt on the 16th February 1916 to France and was transferred to the 14th Machine Gun Battalion.
26th March 1916 Driver Lance Corporal
28th March 1916 Sergeant
26th October 1916 Gunshot wound to Left Thigh near Fleurs, France.
2nd November 1916 Admitted to Ontario Hospital, Orpington, Harefield UK
with a Compound Fracture of Left Thigh.
Medical Report: Wounded by shrapnel in action. Middle third Left Thigh, a fragment entered external surface, penetrated thigh and came out on internal surface causing a severe fracture(compound).
18th October 1917 Returned home for discharge.
12th June 1918 Discharged from Military Hospital Randwick, NSW
9th November 1918 Died in Sydney from Tetanus and Heart Failure.
James is buried at Rookwood Cemetary.
