ALBERT NORMAN ROBERTSON was born on 10th June, 1893, at Bourke, N.S.W., the son of Mr. Albert Edward Robertson and Mrs. Susan Ross Robertson. He was educated at the Fort Street High School, Sydney, and entered the Bank’s service at Head Office on 14th February, 1911.
Enlisting in the A.I.F. on 23rd May, 1915, Albert Robertson left Australia in the following month with the 5 th Australian Field Ambulance. He rendered continuous service in Egypt, Gallipoli, France and Belgium for over three years, and was actively engaged during the attacks on Hill 60, Gallipoli, and at Pozieres, Flers, Bapaume, Bullecourt, Passchendaele, and other battles down to Villers-Bretonneux. He was promoted to sergeant in February, 1916, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal “in recognition of valuable services rendered with the armies in France and Flanders.” Sergeant Robertson returned to Australia in July, 1919.

'This N.C.O. is an original member of the Unit, having left Australia on 26th June, 1915. His services have been consistent and invaluable in his capacity of sectional Sergeant Clerk and as Acting Orderly Room Sergeant - the period embraces three years service in this capacity - he has been most reliable throughout and has on all occasions kept with accuracy and care, the many records in connection with the admission and discharge of wounded, as well as doing the routine clerical work of the Unit with marked ability.'
