Son of John Urane and Elizabeth Urane of Waterloo Street, Ryde, NSW.

23 July 1915 - enlisted at Liverpool, NSW, with the 1st Battalion and with the rank of Private.

13 February 1916 - transferred to the 53rd Battalion at Tel-el-Kebir

19 July 1916 - wounded in action. Transferred to England on 23 July 1916 aboard HS St. Denis with a severe wound to the left leg

23 September 1917 - promoted to Lance Sergeant

1 September 1918 - wounded in action for second time. Invalided to England on 4 September 1918 with wounds to the thigh and face

8 January 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Orsova disembarking on 3 March 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney

Medals: 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

25 April 1919 - discharged at the 2nd Military District as medically unfit due to wounding

During 1919c David married Florence Bell in Wickham, NSW.
