John's parents were William Clement Rodwell and Adelaide Louisa Victoria Watt. John was living at Dayboro working as a farmer when he enlisted on 20 February 1918 at Brisbane. By the time John arrived overseas the war had ended so he was never assigned a unit to be posted to
he returned to Australia and was discharged 6 January 1919. He married Ellen Louisa Jane Woodward in 1924 at Brisbane.
