Wilfred Allan Phillis

Wilfred was my great-uncle. As a young man he worked on his father's farm at Georgetown and later at Two Wells. After his father's death in 1910 the family moved to Lower light and he partnered his younger brother Sydney farming. On the death of his sister Elizabeth the partnership was discontinued.
Wilfred now joined the Victorian Railways and when hostilities broke out in World War I, joined the military and left for overseas duty and saw action at Gallipoli. He was invalided to England.
On returning home he joined the Commonwealth Railways and on retirement made his home in Port Augusta.
I remember 'Uncle Wilf' as a taxi driver in Port Augusta.
Wilfred married Jessie Knight and had two sons and a daughter.
