Biography contributed by Allison Ballard

Edward Henry's (Henry) mother Marion Janet (Janet) Ballard was assaulted by an Aboriginal man Jackey Beaumont (alias Bowman) at her home in Bloomfield Street, Gunnedah, in 1910. At th time, Henry would have been about 13 years old.

Henry enlisted when he was 18 years and 3 months. He was in hospital in Eygpt when his brother Harold Archurt Smith Ballard went missing and was later identified as killed in action in France.
