Family history is enlisted under-age. Was a tall lad with large foot size - army unable to provide boots for first 6 months of service. Had 2 incidents AWL with Cairo leave. Was assessed as unfit due deafness and discharged. Returned to Melbourne resuming working with horses. Was well known as bookmaker on The Flat at Flemington. In 50's had grocery lockup adjacent Swanston St Carlton working from ex Moran and Cato's flat top truck at South Melbourne market - helped by his wife Marg.
