Died on this date - 26th June......Sergeant Ralph Austin Brabazon was born at Mulligar, County Westmeath, Ireland in 1879.
According to information provided for the Roll of Honour by his wife – Ralph came to Australia when he was 3 years old. The Brabazon family were passengers on the Earl Dalhousie which departed from London, via Plymouth on 13th November, 1879 & arrived at the port of Brisbane on 7th February, 1880. The Brabazon family had embarked from Plymouth, England. The family consisted of John Brabazon & Mrs Brabazon & their children – William, Robert, Anne, Jane, Sinen, John, Joseph, Samuel & Infant (assumed to be Ralph).
Ralph Brabazon, Private in Royal Australian Artillery at Portsea, Victoria, reported to Victorian Police in July, 1910 that 2 items had been stolen from him.
Ralph Austin Brabazon enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) on 21st December, 1914 as a 34 year old Clerk from Portsea, Victoria.
Ralph Austin Brabazon married Adelaide Cain on 15th February, 1915.
Regimental Sergeant Major Brabazon arrived at Egypt on 3rd April, 1915. He reverted to rank of Private on being taken on strength of his Unit with 5th Battalion on 26th May, 1915 while posted at Anzac. He was promoted up through the ranks to Sergeant in July & September 1915.
Sergeant Brabazon was hospitalised 3 times between 19th September, 1915 & 20th January, 1916.
Sergeant Brabazon arrived in France on 17th May, 1916. He was hospitalised on 29th May, 1916 then embarked for England on Hospital Ship Caledonian with Influenza where he was admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, England on 13th June, 1916 with Bronchitis. He was discharged on 25th September, 1916 & posted to No. 1 Command Depot at Perham Downs, Wiltshire.
Sergeant Brabazon returned to France & rejoined 5th Battalion on 21st June, 1917. He was wounded in action on 20th September, 1917 with shrapnel wounds to head & rejoined his Unit on 1st November, 1917.
Sergeant Brabazon was wounded in action (2nd occasion) on 14th June, 1918. He was invalided to England & admitted to Military Hospital, Herne Bay, Kent, England on 17th June, 1918 with gunshot wounds to side & arm (severe) (previous reports state he was wounded in the thigh.
Sergeant Ralph Austin Brabazon died at 5.45 am on 26th June, 1918 at Military Hospital, Herne Bay, Kent, England from wounds received in action – gunshot wounds to buttock & side. He was buried in Herne Bay Cemetery, Herne Bay, Kent, England.

Biography
Ralph Austin BRABAZON was born on 14th August, 1879 in Mullingar, Westmeath, Ireland
His parents were John BRABAZON and Hannah Jane AUSTIN who also came to Australia c. 1881
His father John died in 1891 in Moonee Ponds, Victoria and his mother Hannah Jane died in 1907 Essendon, Victoria
Ralph married Adelaide CAIN in 1915 in Victoria - Adelaide died on 29th September 1935 and is buried in Sorrento Cemetery with her parents John & Julia CAIN
He previously served with the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery -3rd Military district (see story on profile for more details of previous service)
He enlisted on 21st December, 1914 with the 5th Battalion, 3rd Reinforcements - Unit embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Runic on 19th Feb. 1915 - Service No. 1651
Ralph died in Herne Bay Military Hospital from gunshot wounds to his arm and is buried in Herne Bay Cemetery , Row T , Grave 110, Herne, Kent, England
