He was 29 and the son of Edmund and Alice Mary Smeeton of 28 Glebe Street, London Road, Nottingham.
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged), 25 September 1916: 'Smeeton. At Devonport on Friday, September 22nd of fever, Private Edmund Smeeton, Australian Imperial Forces, son of Edmund and Alice Smeeton, 28 Glebe Street. Nottingham.'
He is remembered on the Nottingham South (Meadows & West Bridgford) Virtual War Memorial.
