Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
James Stephen FARRELL, (Service Number 2130), born at Castle Mountain, near Quirindi, in 1892, joined the NSWGR as a labourer on the Northern Division of the Permanent Way Branch in April 1914. In July that year he became a fettler on the Moree - Inverell line. In August 1915 he enlisted in the AIF at Narrabri.
On 21 July 1916 he was reported missing in action( in France), and a Court of Enquiry subsequently amended this report to ‘killed in action’ on that date. He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery Memorial, Fromelles.

James Stephen FARRELL (Service Number 2130) was born at Castle Mountain, near Quirindi, in 1892. He joined the NSW Government Railways as a labourer on the Northern Division of the Permanent Way Branch in April 1914. In July that year he became a fettler on the Moree - Inverell line. In August 1915 he enlisted in the AIF at Narrabri.
He embarked from Sydney in February 1916. He went first to Egypt, landing there in March and joining his battalion the following month. In May he had a week in hospital with mumps. He re-joined his unit in time to leave with them for France, where he landed on 23rd June.
On 21st July he was reported missing in action. A Court of Enquiry subsequently amended this report to ‘killed in action’ on that date. He has no known grave but is remembered with honour on the VC Corner Australian Cemetery Memorial, Fromelles.
