John Percy Tape Life

My Great Uncle Private John Percy Tape was born 1889 in Burton on Trent, Staffordshire, England. He left school & worked in his home town as a Shop Assistant. He left there & boarded a ship to New South Wales as he wanted to be close to his sister my Grandmother Gertrude. My Grandparents were living at the time in Inverell NSW, John stopped there & went on to Kyogle NSW as there was work there. He lived on a farm, as a Farm labourer. He joined the Army on the 1 February 1916 at Lismore NSW, No.530 41st.Batt. 11th inf. Brig. B Company. He embarked in Sydney NSW on the 16 May 1916 ship HMAT Demosthenes to France. Private John Percy Tape was wounded in action & died and died of his wounds on the 15 April 1918 aged 29. Buried at the Long pro-Les Corps,Saint British Cemetery. France.
