Donald was born on the Isle of Skye.Donald survived the Great War but is commemorated [as a Corporal] on the Lochalsh War Memorial at Balmacara/Reraig .Balmacara [Scottish Gaelic: Baile MacRath] is a scattered village on the north shore of Loch Alsh near Kyle of Lochalsh, Ross-shire, He is also commemorated on the nearby Plockton War Memorial. These highland villages are in very remote areas of Scotland and those responsible for having names added to war memorials, back in the early 1920’s would have no easy way of knowing whether or not locally born men who had emigrated to Australia were killed or survived.
Plockton (Scottish Gaelic: Am Ploc/Ploc Loch Aillse) is a village in the Highlands of Scotland in the county of Ross and Cromarty.
Both Plockton and Localsh were ferry boat departure points across to Skye.
