Arthur was the grandson of John and Margaret Colville who arrived in SA from Scotland in 1839. They were among the earlist settlers in Willunga. Arthurs father John, was born in the town and worked on Moy farm in Willunga. After graduating Law in 1905, Arthur worked as a solicitor in Strathalbyn for two years, the took over the farm.
During his war service Arthur was wounded twice and invalided to England before eventually returning home.
He joined law firm Baker McEwin and in 1923 married Dorothy Isabella, Stewart Monro. They had a son and daughter. Arthur wasa gentle, quiet, scholarly man who maintained his interest in farming and was a keen rose grower. He retured in 1967 and was living in St Peters before his death in 1973.
